ICC Suspends USA Cricket Board but Confirms T20 World Cup Participation

The ICC suspends USA Cricket (USAC) with immediate effect after repeated governance failures. However, the team will still compete in the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. The ICC Board announced the decision on Tuesday, calling it a necessary step to protect the sport’s growth in a key market.

Why ICC Suspends USA Cricket

The ICC suspension of USA Cricket followed several breaches of membership rules. USAC failed to build a strong governance structure, made no progress toward National Governing Body (NGB) status with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and damaged cricket’s reputation in the US and globally.

Back in July, the ICC gave USAC three months to hold fair elections and launch reforms. Since those steps never happened, suspension became unavoidable.

Impact on USA Cricket and Global Events

Although the ICC suspends USA Cricket, the team’s participation in ICC tournaments stays safe. The USA squad will feature in the T20 World Cup 2025 and continue preparing for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

ICC officials confirmed that athletes and competitions remain unaffected. The suspension only targets the board, while the ICC now oversees USA’s national team management to ensure stability.

Path Forward for USA Cricket

Recovery for USA Cricket will depend on reforms. The ICC Normalisation Committee, led by Jay Shah, created a roadmap that demands new independent directors, fresh elections, and an application for NGB status. A full review of the USA Cricket Constitution is also part of the plan.

The ICC highlighted its main priorities: safeguarding athletes, keeping cricket secure for the Olympics, and supporting long-term growth in America. If the board delivers these changes, USA Cricket can regain full membership.
