In an exciting match at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario, Toronto Nationals beat the hosts Brampton Wolves in Qualifier 2 of Global T20 on August 10, 2024. Delays in the start had to be undertaken because of a wet outfield; when the match got underway finally, it indeed turned out to be an action-packed game with the Nationals chasing down 141 runs rather comprehensively.
Delayed Start Sets the Scene
A wet outfield delayed the start, and with it, the expectations were high and irritability seeped in. Toronto Nationals won the toss and decided to field, the decision that would turn out to be the decisive one eventually. When finally the rain-drenched pitch was declared fit for play, the game took off, and so did it, very quickly.

Innings of Brampton Wolves: Solid Yet Unfinished
The Brampton Wolves batting first did come up with a respectable total of 141 runs from their 20 overs, but it had its ebbs and flows. Nick Hobson turned out to be the ace and made a valuable 51 runs off 34 balls with 5 boundaries and 2 sixes. His innings turned out to be a good platform for the Wolves, who couldn’t cash in on it.
Munsey also contributed with 26 runs off 24 balls, hitting 1 four and 1 six but the Wolves lost wickets at vital junctures. The Nationals’ bowlers were sharp and astute, led by an incisive performance from Romario Shepherd. His haul of 4 for 32 proved critical to keep the Wolves in check. Good support came in the form of Jatinderpal Matharu, who took 2 for 24.
Toronto Nationals’ Chase: Clinical and Composed
The Toronto Nationals, in their turn to bat, as usual, showed why they are a strong team. They reached the target of 142 runs in only 18.3 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process. Captain Colin Munro batted at an important time with a brisk 36 off 20 balls, studded with 5 fours and a six. His leadership on the field was matched by his performance on the bat, where he guided his team toward victory.
The unbeaten 24, off 27 balls by Mohammad Nawaz, ensured the innings was seen out without a flutter. He contributed 2 fours and a six to flesh out the total. Though Brampton Wolves’ bowlers did try their best—Akhil Kumar returning 3 for 31—the chase was never in much doubt once Munro and Nawaz got going.
