Mark Chapman Ruled Out, Seifert Steps In

New Zealand has made a key squad change ahead of the second ODI against Pakistan. Tim Seifert replaces Mark Chapman, who suffered a grade-one hamstring tear while fielding in the series opener. The injury forces Chapman out of the Hamilton match, opening the door for Seifert’s return to ODI cricket for the NZ vs PAK 2nd ODI.

Seifert Returns After Six-Year ODI Gap

The wicketkeeper-batsman last played an ODI in January 2019. While a regular in New Zealand’s T20I squad, he has only three appearances in the 50-over format. His recent T20I form has been outstanding, scoring 249 runs against Pakistan at a blazing strike rate of 207.50. This performance made him the team’s top scorer in the series, now he will look to bring that form in the NZ vs PAK 2nd ODI.

Gary Stead Confident in Seifert’s Abilities

New Zealand’s head coach, Gary Stead, praised Seifert’s form and experience. He acknowledged Chapman’s brilliant knock in the first ODI but remained hopeful about his return for the final game. Stead emphasized Seifert’s value as a top-order option in the NZ vs PAK 2nd ODI.

“It’s disappointing for Mark after his great innings in Napier. Luckily, the injury is minor, and we hope he recovers for the last match. With new faces in the squad, Tim’s experience is a big plus. He’s in top form and strengthens our batting lineup,” Stead said.

New Zealand Eyes Series Win, Pakistan Under Pressure

The Black Caps lead the series 1-0. A victory in the NZ vs PAK 2nd ODI in Hamilton will seal their third ODI series win of 2025. Earlier, they won at home against Sri Lanka and triumphed in a series featuring Pakistan and South Africa. Meanwhile, Pakistan must win to stay alive in the contest.

Final ODI to Wrap Up New Zealand’s Home Season

Chapman is expected to return for the third ODI on April 5 in Mount Maunganui. That match will mark the last men’s international fixture of New Zealand’s home season. Both teams will aim to finish on a high note.
