India seized full control on Day 2 of the India vs England second Test, thanks to a majestic Shubman Gill double century vs England and a powerful response by the Indian pacers. Gill’s 269, a record-breaking knock, powered India to a mammoth 587 before England collapsed to 77 for 3 at stumps, trailing by 510 runs.

Gill Leads India with Record-Breaking 269

Gill’s knock was a masterclass in temperament and strokeplay. With disciplined shot selection and graceful boundaries, the Shubman Gill double century vs England became the highest-ever Test score by an Indian captain. He surpassed previous records held by Virat Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar and showed immense control across 387 balls.

The Indian skipper added 203 runs with Ravindra Jadeja and another 144 with Washington Sundar. His dominance over England’s bowling was evident, especially when he milked Bashir for singles and unleashed boundaries off Carse and Brook. After batting nearly the entire innings, Gill also contributed in the field by taking a stunning catch to dismiss Ben Duckett.

India’s Bowlers Rattle England Early

The Indian pace attack, led by Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, struck quickly. Akash removed Duckett with a sharp delivery and followed it up by dismissing Ollie Pope. Siraj joined the party by removing Zak Crawley, exposing England’s fragile top order.

At 25 for 3, England’s hopes rested on Joe Root and Harry Brook. Although the pair added 52 runs, India maintained complete control. Brook, after surviving an lbw review, played a few attacking strokes but couldn’t undo the damage caused earlier.

Support from Jadeja and Sundar Strengthens India’s Total

Jadeja contributed 89, while Sundar stood tall under pressure. The latter faced a bouncer barrage early but later counterattacked with a six off Tongue. Root finally broke the partnership by bowling Sundar, but the damage was already done.

India added a national-record 372 runs for the last five wickets, justifying their decision to include Sundar over Kuldeep Yadav for batting depth.
