Heavy rain disrupts IPL 2025 restart in Bengaluru

The IPL 2025 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders was abandoned due to persistent rain, crushing KKR’s playoff hopes. Fans had gathered in large numbers at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, but the weather did not cooperate as Bengaluru witnessed heavy showers throughout the evening.

KKR eliminated from IPL 2025 playoff race

Kolkata Knight Riders’ chances of qualifying for the playoffs in IPL 2025 came to an end with the washout. Their total now stands at 12 points with one match remaining, and even a win there will only take them to 14. That tally won’t suffice, as three teams have already surpassed that mark. The rain not only halted the game but also closed the door on KKR’s title defence.

RCB inch closer to top-two finish despite rain

Although Royal Challengers Bengaluru would have preferred a full match to boost their net run rate, they still benefited from the single point gained. This took them to 17 points from 12 matches, strengthening their bid for a top-two finish in the IPL 2025 table. Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings remain close, with 16 and 15 points respectively, both from 11 matches.

Top-two finish offers big IPL advantage

A top-two finish in the IPL points table holds great significance. Teams finishing in the top two receive two chances to make the final, unlike others who face direct elimination upon a single loss. Historically, only Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 have won the IPL after finishing outside the top two.

Kohli fans left disappointed in Bengaluru rain

Supporters turned up in white to honour Virat Kohli, who recently announced his retirement from Test cricket. Unfortunately, they couldn’t even catch a glimpse of him on the field. With rain continuing through the evening, players didn’t step out even for warm-ups. RCB’s final league match is scheduled at home against Sunrisers Hyderabad, a team already out of contention.

Another rain-hit IPL match would frustrate fans and teams alike as Bengaluru’s monsoon seems to have arrived early.
