The PSL ownership renewal cycle has reached a major milestone as Quetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings, and Islamabad United officially confirmed their continued partnership with the PCB for the next decade. Because this follows similar announcements from Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi, the Pakistan Super League’s original five franchises have now secured extended ownership agreements.
PSL Ownership Renewal Strengthens League Stability
The PSL ownership renewal wave had been expected, yet its confirmation brings vital stability to the league ahead of expansion in 2026. Even though all franchises were likely to renew, each ownership group evaluated financial valuations, annual fees, and long-term commitments before signing.
Karachi Kings, once the most expensive franchise in 2016, ended up with the smallest percentage increase in their updated valuation. They originally cost PKR 440 million, rising to roughly PKR 790 million in the latest cycle. Due to PSL rules, earlier owners must pay the old value plus 25% of the new valuation, placing the Kings’ annual fee around PKR 640 million.
Market Values Shift as Franchises Finalise Long-Term Commitments
Interestingly, the PSL ownership renewal process also revealed updated financial rankings. Kings now sit below Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans in market value, though still above Quetta Gladiators.
Gladiators showed the highest value growth. Their 2016 fee of PKR 187 million rose to about PKR 690 million, requiring an annual payment near PKR 360 million under the renewed contract. Islamabad United also saw sizeable growth, jumping from PKR 255 million to PKR 860 million, resulting in a fee of around PKR 470 million.
Owners expressed confidence in the league’s direction. Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal called the decision “a recommitment to the vision that built the HBL PSL,” reinforcing how important continuity is for franchise branding and fan engagement.
Next Steps: Two New Teams and Sultans’ Ownership Void
Because the PSL ownership renewal process did not include Multan Sultans, the PCB must now find a new owner for the franchise. Moreover, two additional teams are expected to join ahead of PSL 2026, scheduled between March and May. Therefore, the league’s financial structure and expansion strategy will undergo major adjustments in the coming months.
The conclusion of the PSL ownership renewal cycle ensures long-term stability, positions the league for expansion, and reinforces its status as one of the world’s fastest-growing T20 competitions.
