Jasprit Bumrah Ruled Out of Champions Trophy 2025, India Announces Replacement

India Suffers a Major Setback Ahead of Champions Trophy

In a huge blow to India’s Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury. The premier pacer sustained the injury during the final Test against Australia in Sydney last month and has failed to recover in time for the ICC event, which begins on February 19 in Pakistan.

Harshit Rana Named as Bumrah’s Replacement

With Bumrah unavailable, the Indian selectors have called up young fast bowler Harshit Rana as his replacement in the squad. The 22-year-old has impressed with his performances in domestic cricket and the IPL, showcasing his ability to bowl at a lively pace and deliver under pressure. While filling Bumrah’s shoes will be a daunting task, Rana’s inclusion offers India a fresh bowling option.

Bumrah’s Unfortunate Injury Record in ICC Events

This marks the second time in five years that Bumrah has missed a major ICC tournament due to injury. He was also ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia due to a back issue, significantly impacting India’s campaign. The recurring injuries raise concerns over his long-term workload management, especially with crucial series and tournaments lined up in the future.

Varun Chakaravarthy Gets a Call-Up

India has also made another change to their squad, bringing in Varun Chakaravarthy in place of Yashasvi Jaiswal. The mystery spinner earned his spot after a stellar T20I series against England, where he picked up 14 wickets in five matches. His performance in the ODI match in Cuttack, where he took 1/54, further strengthened his case for selection.

Non-Travelling Reserves Announced

Yashasvi Jaiswal, along with Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube, has been named as a non-traveling reserve. These players will stay on standby and join the squad in Dubai if required.

With Bumrah out, India’s bowling attack faces a stiff challenge in the Champions Trophy 2025, and all eyes will now be on Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy to step up on the big stage.
