Major Setback for Mumbai Indians Ahead of IPL 2025
The upcoming IPL 2025 season has yet to begin, but Mumbai Indians have already received a major blow. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who is still recovering from a back injury, is expected to miss the first two weeks of the tournament. According to reports, he has not attained full match fitness and continues his rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Jasprit Bumrah’s Expected Return Date in IPL 2025
Jasprit Bumrah is expected to return to the Mumbai Indians squad in early April 2025. He has resumed bowling at the National Cricket Academy, but high-intensity training is still limited. Reports suggest that he could be match-fit by the first week of April
A BCCI official revealed, “His medical reports are fine, and he has started bowling again at CoE. However, bowling at full intensity in the initial matches of IPL seems unlikely. The first week of April looks like a more practical timeframe for his return.”
Matches Bumrah Might Miss
Bumrah is likely to miss the Mumbai Indians’ first few IPL 2025 matches. He won’t feature in the season opener against Chennai Super Kings—often called the “El Clásico” of IPL. He may also miss games against Gujarat Titans, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Lucknow Super Giants.
If his recovery stays on track, Bumrah could return on April 7, when Mumbai Indians face Royal Challengers Bangalore.
BCCI’s Focus on Bumrah’s Fitness for England Series
The BCCI is prioritizing Bumrah’s long-term fitness. They want him fully fit for the crucial Test series against England later this year. With Rohit Sharma’s Test captaincy future uncertain, Bumrah is seen as a potential leader for the red-ball squad.
The selectors are being cautious to avoid any risk of reinjury.
Why Bumrah’s Return Matters
Bumrah has been Mumbai Indians’ most dependable bowler for years. His absence will challenge the team’s bowling attack, especially during powerplays and death overs. Both the franchise and Indian fans are eagerly waiting for his return to action.
