The IPL 2025 resume date could be confirmed soon, following the temporary ceasefire between India and Pakistan. After a week-long suspension caused by rising border tensions, the BCCI is now working actively to restart the season. A potential return around May 15 is under discussion, although government approval is still awaited.
BCCI Considers New Schedule After Situation Improves
Rajeev Shukla, BCCI vice-president, stated that board officials and the IPL governing council would soon meet to decide on the revised schedule. The ceasefire has shifted the landscape, prompting immediate planning. If all goes well, the IPL 2025 resume date may be finalised within days.
Franchises Rush to Recall Foreign Players
In the meantime, franchises are contacting overseas players and coaching staff. Many had left India between May 9 and 10 when the tournament was paused. However, some have been asked to halt further travel. Others were advised to delay their departures as teams prepare for a swift restart.
The Gujarat Titans, for example, reported just two overseas exits—Jos Buttler and Gerald Coetzee. Both are expected to return before the tournament resumes.

Player Commitments Could Impact Final Stages
Although teams are optimistic, concerns remain. If the IPL 2025 resume date pushes the season beyond May 25, several players might not be available. International series and the World Test Championship final between Australia and South Africa could cause scheduling conflicts.
Key Matches and Cities Under Review
So far, 57 matches have taken place, with 16 more to go—including 12 league games and four playoffs. The PBKS vs DC match on May 8 was abandoned, and officials have yet to decide if it will be replayed. To streamline logistics, the BCCI is considering Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad as host cities.
With seven teams still vying for playoff spots, finalising the IPL 2025 resume date is essential for wrapping up the season effectively.
