Strong Start Before Rain Hits
Asked to bat first, India’s openers came out blazing on a lively surface. With Josh Hazlewood missing, Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma dominated early. They raced to 52 for no loss in 4.5 overs before the storm hit.
Gill was in complete control, cracking 29 from 16 balls with four beautiful boundaries. Abhishek, who benefited from two dropped catches, added 23 off 13 deliveries. Both looked set for big scores before lightning forced players off the field, followed by a heavy downpour that ended all hopes of resumption.
Series Victory for India
The washout echoed the first T20I in Canberra, which was also rained out. Australia won the second game at the MCG, but India bounced back strongly. Wins in Hobart and the Gold Coast showcased India’s spin strength and adaptability on slower tracks.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav praised his players for their all-round effort. “Each player stepped up when needed,” he said. “It was a true team performance in all departments.” He also credited the home crowd’s support during India’s women’s World Cup triumph for inspiring his side.

Marsh Reflects on Series Lessons
Mitchell Marsh expressed disappointment over the weather but focused on the positives. “The group showed great flexibility and depth in a World Cup year,” he said.
Before the rain interruption, Abhishek survived a dropped catch by Glenn Maxwell, while Gill punished loose deliveries with crisp drives. As lightning flashed across the Brisbane sky, the crowd’s excitement turned into frustration as the match was finally called off.
With this result, India seal T20I series 2-1 after Brisbane washout, heading home confident ahead of their T20 World Cup campaign on home soil.
