India Asia Cup Trophy Controversy: ACC President Mohsin Naqvi Statement

The India Asia Cup trophy controversy has taken another turn as Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi reiterated his stance. Following the Asia Cup 2025 final, the ACC chief stated that the Indian team must collect the trophy directly from him if they truly want it.

ACC president challenges India over Asia Cup trophy

Naqvi emphasized in a social media post that he had been prepared to hand over the Asia Cup trophy immediately after the final. However, he declared that the award would only be presented in person at the ACC office. According to him, “If India wants the Asia Cup trophy, they can come and receive it directly.”

This remark came after a meeting held in Dubai with other Asian cricket boards. Representatives from the BCCI joined remotely, but no clear resolution was reached regarding the trophy handover and winners’ medals.

Trophy drama delays Asia Cup final ceremony

The India Asia Cup trophy standoff first began during the post-final presentation. Indian players, including captain Suryakumar Yadav, refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi. The incident delayed the ceremony for more than an hour. Eventually, individual awards were given by other dignitaries, while the trophy was removed from the stage by an ACC official.

Although India celebrated their win, the players lifted no Asia Cup trophy or medals, leaving fans shocked.

India-Pakistan tensions escalate during Asia Cup

The trophy issue added fuel to the already heated India vs Pakistan rivalry in the Asia Cup. Throughout the tournament, players from both sides avoided handshakes, and heated remarks were exchanged. India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav faced ICC sanctions for his comments after the first clash, while Haris Rauf was fined for gestures during the second match.

Despite the controversies, India managed to defeat Pakistan in the final, marking the first-ever India-Pakistan Asia Cup title clash.

Women’s teams prepare for next battle

After three consecutive Sundays of India-Pakistan clashes in the men’s tournament, attention now shifts to the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. India and Pakistan women will face each other in Colombo on October 5, continuing the fierce rivalry on another stage.
