India took full control of the second Test as Gill’s double hundred vs England powered the hosts to a monumental lead. Declaring at 427 for 6, India left England needing a world-record 608 runs to win, ending the fourth day with England struggling at 72 for 3.
Gill Double Hundred vs England Breaks Records
Shubman Gill’s incredible form continued with a knock of 161, marking his third century in four innings and completing the historic Gill double hundred vs England. Across both innings, he amassed a stunning 430 runs, becoming the first batter in Test history to score both a 200 and a 150 in the same match.
By the time the declaration came, Gill had shattered Sunil Gavaskar’s record for most runs by an Indian in a single Test. With effortless sixes and precise strokeplay, especially against spin, Gill pushed India’s lead beyond 600.

Pant and Jadeja Pile On the Pressure
Before Gill’s fireworks, Rishabh Pant blasted a rapid 65, flaying England’s bowlers despite losing his bat twice. Zak Crawley’s drop at 10 proved costly as Pant punished England, adding 110 runs with Gill in just 103 balls.
Ravindra Jadeja also stepped up after being promoted in the order. Though cautious early, he shifted gears post-tea and reached his half-century with a signature cut off Joe Root. India’s intent to wear England down was evident throughout.
India’s Bowlers Strike Early After Declaration
With a massive lead in hand, India’s bowlers quickly made inroads. Akash Deep removed Duckett and Root with two beauties, while Siraj dismissed Crawley cheaply. England ended day four at 72 for 3, needing 536 more runs—a target that seems nearly impossible.
India will return on day five needing seven wickets for victory. As Gill’s double hundred vs England rewrote history, the Edgbaston crowd witnessed a batting masterclass and a strong show of dominance from the visitors.
