Brevis Record-Breaking 125 Leads South Africa to Win Over Australia in 2nd T20I
The Brevis record-breaking 125 lit up Darwin as South Africa defeated Australia by 53 runs in the second T20I, levelling the series 1-1. Dewald Brevis smashed the highest individual T20I score for South Africa, reaching his century in just 41 balls and becoming the youngest South African to achieve the feat. His breathtaking innings propelled the hosts to a commanding 218 for 7.
Explosive Batting Dominates Australia’s Attack
A sensational knock was produced by Brevis, who struck 12 fours and eight sixes, scoring 96 runs in boundaries. His dominant partnership of 91 runs with Tristan Stubbs stabilised the innings after early wickets. Moreover, the Brevis record-breaking 125 featured six towering sixes in the ‘V’, leaving Australia’s bowlers struggling for answers. Glenn Maxwell’s 12th over became a turning point, leaking 24 runs as Brevis raced from 44 to 66 in just four balls.

Australian Bowlers Under Pressure
Despite Ben Dwarshuis’ disciplined spell of 1 for 24, four of Australia’s bowlers conceded over 11 runs per over. A late fightback slowed South Africa’s scoring, with quick wickets from Hazlewood and Dwarshuis. However, Brevis ensured momentum stayed with the hosts, adding vital runs in the final overs to set a target that was always going to be challenging.
South African Fielding Steps Up
South Africa’s catching improved significantly from the previous match. Key grabs by Pretorius, Peter, and Brevis himself halted Australia’s chase. Although a couple of chances went down, including one from Stubbs, the overall display in the field backed up the Brevis record-breaking 125 perfectly.

Tim David’s Resistance Falls Short
Tim David offered resistance with a powerful fifty, including a massive six that cleared the stadium roof. His dismissal to Kagiso Rabada at 104 for 3 proved decisive. After David’s departure, Australia’s chase fell away, and wickets tumbled under scoreboard pressure. Kwena Maphaka and Corbin Bosch both finished with three wickets each, sealing South Africa’s biggest T20I victory margin over Australia.
The Brevis record-breaking 125 not only levelled the series but also set the stage for an exciting decider in Cairns. With momentum on their side, South Africa will look to finish the job and claim the series.
