Rain Washes Out Pakistan vs New Zealand Match
The Pakistan vs New Zealand Women’s World Cup 2025 clash in Colombo ended in disappointment after heavy rain forced another washout. This was Pakistan’s second abandoned match in four days. As a result, their semifinal hopes hang by a thread. Both teams shared points, which confirmed South Africa Women’s qualification for the semifinals alongside Australia Women.
Because South Africa already have four wins from five matches, a tie on points will secure their place due to a superior win record. Meanwhile, Pakistan remain winless in the tournament. In contrast, New Zealand stay in contention, sitting fifth with one victory and two no-results. Their remaining fixtures against India Women and England Women will now decide their knockout fate.
Early Dominance by New Zealand Bowlers
Before rain intervened, New Zealand Women were in control after winning the toss in overcast conditions. Experienced pacer Lea Tahuhu returned to the XI and delivered a brilliant opening spell, claiming two early wickets. Additionally, the Kerr sisters and Eden Carson picked up one wicket each. They reduced Pakistan Women to 92 for 5 before the weather worsened.
Tahuhu dismissed Omaima Sohail early, trapping her lbw for just 3 runs. Soon after, sharp fielding efforts from Suzie Bates and Carson helped New Zealand tighten their grip. At one point, Pakistan found themselves struggling at 52 for 3 when rain caused the first delay.

Riaz’s Resistance and Final Abandonment
When play resumed, Aliya Riaz attempted to rebuild the innings with Natalia Pervaiz. Riaz struck a few boundaries. Yet, consistent bowling from Melie Kerr and Eden Carson ensured Pakistan couldn’t recover. Pervaiz and captain Fatima Sana both fell cheaply as rain returned once more. This ended play with Pakistan at 92 for 5 after 25 overs.
Although there was a brief pause in the rain, heavy showers later forced the ground staff to cover the entire field. This led to the official abandonment of the match.
South Africa Progress; Pakistan’s Future Uncertain
With this no-result, South Africa Women officially became the second semifinalists of the Women’s World Cup 2025. However, Pakistan Women now face an uphill battle to stay alive in the tournament. They need strong performances in their final matches. The rain may have saved them from defeat today, but time is quickly running out for their campaign.
