Trophy Presentation Controversy in Asia Cup 2025 Final

The India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 Final in Dubai ended with controversy beyond the pitch. India defeated Pakistan to claim their ninth title but refused to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president. The stand delayed the presentation ceremony by more than an hour and sparked heated debate across global cricket circles.

BCCI Explains India’s Decision

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the players did not want to receive the trophy from Naqvi. He pointed out that Naqvi also serves as the PCB chairman and Pakistan’s interior minister. Saikia insisted the trophy rightfully belonged to India and demanded it be handed over without delay. He confirmed that the BCCI would lodge a strong protest at the ICC conference in Dubai later this year.

Players Collect Awards Without Trophy

When the delayed ceremony began, Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Sharma, and Tilak Varma collected their individual awards from other dignitaries. Meanwhile, officials removed the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the stage, leaving India to celebrate without it. Pakistan captain Salman Agha received the runners-up cheque, while the Indian team humorously lifted an “imaginary trophy” before their fans.

Suryakumar Yadav Reacts to Trophy Snub

India captain Suryakumar Yadav expressed frustration at the situation. He said he had never seen a champion team denied a trophy in his career. He added that the real trophies were his teammates and support staff, who carried India through the Asia Cup 2025 Final. According to Suryakumar, the decision to reject the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi came from the players themselves.

Ongoing Tensions Between India and Pakistan

The refusal to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from Mohsin Naqvi highlighted the strained ties between the two nations. India avoided shaking hands with Pakistan players throughout the tournament, which drew criticism. Their Super Four clash also saw heated on-field exchanges, and both teams faced ICC sanctions. The trophy controversy only reinforced the political undertones that shaped this year’s Asia Cup.
