Abhishek Sharma becomes No. 1 in ICC T20I batting rankings

India’s young opener Abhishek Sharma has claimed the top spot in the ICC T20I batting rankings. The left-hander overtook his Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate Travis Head, who had held the No. 1 position for over a year. This achievement makes Abhishek only the third Indian batter to lead the T20I batting charts after Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav.

Travis Head loses No. 1 spot after extended absence

Travis Head dropped to second in the ICC T20I batting rankings after not featuring in the format since September 2024. He also opted out of Australia’s recent five-match series against West Indies. With his inactivity, Abhishek Sharma gained the edge to reach the top of the rankings. The Australian opener had first claimed the top position in June 2023 when he displaced Suryakumar Yadav.

Abhishek Sharma’s form helps secure top ICC ranking

Abhishek’s consistent performances helped him climb the ICC T20I batting rankings. He was last seen in action during India’s five-match T20I series against England in February. His explosive 135 from just 54 balls in the final game of that series played a significant role in his surge to the top.

Other key changes in ICC T20I rankings

Several other players moved up the ICC T20I rankings after the West Indies vs Australia series. Josh Inglis climbed six spots to ninth following 172 runs in five matches, while Shai Hope stayed in tenth despite scoring a century. Tim David jumped 12 places to 18th after smashing the fastest T20I century for Australia. Cameron Green made the biggest leap, moving up 64 places to reach No. 24. Brandon King also rose nine places in the updated list.

Bowlers and Test rankings see shifts as well

Nathan Ellis advanced nine positions to joint-eighth in the ICC T20I bowling rankings. In the Test allrounders’ charts, Ben Stokes climbed three spots to No. 3 following his hundred and five-wicket haul at Old Trafford. India’s Ravindra Jadeja continues to lead that category. Washington Sundar, who struck his maiden Test century in Manchester, moved up eight spots to joint-thirteenth, earning a career-best 193 rating points.
