In the ongoing India vs England 2nd Test, Ravindra Jadeja breaks BCCI protocol by arriving early at the ground, violating the board’s strict standard operating procedures. However, no punishment is expected, as his actions were driven by a desire to gain vital batting practice on a tricky surface.
Jadeja’s Early Arrival Sparks Rule Breach
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently implemented guidelines requiring players to travel as a group on the team bus. Despite this, Jadeja broke BCCI rules by coming to Edgbaston ahead of schedule. His goal was to spend extra time preparing for the new ball, knowing that India had collapsed twice at Leeds.
According to Jadeja, the new ball still held threats early in the session. “I felt if I can see the new ball off, it would become easy for the rest of the innings,” he said.
Jadeja’s Vital Knock Supports Gill’s Double Ton
Resuming on 41*, Jadeja forged a crucial 203-run stand with Shubman Gill, taking India from 211 for 5 to a commanding position. The Jadeja batting contribution ended on 89 when Josh Tongue delivered a well-directed short ball. His effort, however, laid the foundation for India’s massive 587-run total.
He expressed pride in contributing under pressure. “When the team needs you more, especially outside India, it feels good to contribute,” said Jadeja. “It gives you confidence for future games.”

Stokes Frustrated by Jadeja’s Pitch Movement
The match also saw friction between Jadeja and England skipper Ben Stokes, who was unhappy with Jadeja’s footwork down the pitch. Though warned by umpires, Jadeja denied intentionally running on the danger area. “It might have happened by mistake once or twice,” he explained.
Focus Shifts to Bowling Strategy on Flat Pitch
Although India took early wickets, Jadeja cautioned that bowling on this pitch requires discipline. He mentioned that rough patches might assist spinners, but overall, the ball isn’t deviating much.
India now aims to bowl with consistent energy on Day 3 without looking too far ahead in terms of the result.
