Despite this, Jadeja broke BCCI rules by coming to Edgbaston ahead of schedule. His goal was to spend extra time preparing for the new ball, knowing that India had collapsed twice at Leeds.
According to Jadeja, the new ball still held threats early in the session. “I felt if I can see the new ball off, it would become easy for the rest of the innings,” he said.

Stokes Frustrated by Jadeja’s Pitch Movement
The match also saw friction between Jadeja and England skipper Ben Stokes, who was unhappy with Jadeja’s footwork down the pitch. Though warned by umpires, Jadeja denied intentionally running on the danger area. “It might have happened by mistake once or twice,” he explained.
