Rashid Khan missing MLC 2025 has come as a major blow to MI New York (MINY) just days before the tournament begins. The Afghanistan allrounder, who had a stellar outing in the previous edition, has opted out of the upcoming season to take a personal break.

Rashid Khan Opts Out After Tough IPL Season

MINY’s campaign in the MLC 2025 will begin without their key bowler. Rashid had been their standout performer last year, taking ten wickets at an impressive economy of 6.15. However, after a challenging IPL 2025 season with Gujarat Titans—where he took only nine wickets at an average of 57.11—he has chosen to rest. Notably, Rashid conceded 33 sixes, the most by any bowler in a single IPL edition, marking a dip in form.

This news of Rashid Khan missing MLC 2025 not only affects MI New York’s bowling unit but also impacts the league’s overall star power.

Omarzai Joins Rashid in Skipping MLC 2025

In another setback for MI New York, Azmatullah Omarzai will also be unavailable for the tournament. He has reportedly taken a break, just like Rashid. Omarzai was last seen playing for Punjab Kings, who finished as runners-up in IPL 2025. His absence further weakens the MINY squad ahead of the new season.

Afghanistan Players and Travel Ban Challenges

Despite Rashid Khan missing MLC 2025, some Afghan players have managed to join their teams. Naveen-ul-Haq (MINY), Noor Ahmed (Texas Super Kings), and Waqar Salamkheil (Seattle Orcas) are already in the US, despite earlier concerns. These concerns stemmed from a newly imposed US travel ban affecting citizens of 12 countries, including Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Gulbadin Naib and Fazalhaq Farooqi—both part of the Orcas squad—are currently awaiting their US visas.

MLC 2025: Uncertainty and Hope Ahead

While Rashid Khan missing MLC 2025 casts a shadow over the league’s start, the participation of other Afghan cricketers offers some relief. However, MI New York must now rethink their bowling strategy as the tournament kicks off Friday.
