Rajat Patidar Penalised for Slow Over-Rate During RCB’s Victory Against MI

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar has been fined for a slow over-rate during their match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium. The fine of ₹12 lakh was imposed after RCB’s win on Monday night. This was the team’s first over-rate offence in IPL 2025.

Fourth Captain Fined in IPL 2025

Rajat Patidar fined for slow over-rate joins a list of captains penalised this season. Before him, Hardik Pandya (MI), Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals), and Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants) also received fines for similar infractions. The IPL governing body is actively cracking down on slow gameplay to maintain match timing.

Patidar’s Smart Captaincy Draws Praise

Despite the fine, Patidar has been praised for his aggressive and composed leadership. With 161 runs from four matches, he is RCB’s second-highest run-scorer, just behind Virat Kohli. More importantly, his on-field decisions have stood out.

Ambati Rayudu highlighted his clever move of reintroducing Bhuvneshwar Kumar at a crucial stage of MI’s chase. On ESPNcricinfo’s TimeOut show, he called it “a brilliant move.” Sanjay Bangar also applauded Patidar’s decision to use Krunal Pandya in the 20th over instead of earlier. Both experts noted that Patidar appeared calm under pressure and rarely needed Kohli’s input.

RCB Set to Face Delhi Capitals Next

RCB has won three out of six matches so far. Their next game is against Delhi Capitals at home in Bengaluru on Thursday. With momentum on their side, fans are hopeful the team will avoid further fines and continue their winning run.
