The Indian government has directed the Indian Premier League (IPL) to ban all direct and indirect advertisements related to tobacco and alcohol. Director General of Health Services (DGHS), Prof. Atul Goel, emphasized that IPL must promote public health and stop supporting harmful products. The government highlighted that India ranks second in tobacco-related deaths worldwide, with 1.4 million fatalities each year.
